Physiotherapy session at Costa Brava Mèdic, Sant Antoni de Calonge

Physiotherapy and rehabilitation

Pain treatment, recovery of movement and functional rehabilitation after surgery or injury.

Physiotherapy uses physical means to maintain, restore and recover health. At our physiotherapy clinic in Sant Antoni de Calonge we assess the real state of each injury and apply the right technique at each stage, combining manual therapy, therapeutic exercise and technology.

What we treat

We treat musculoskeletal problems that cause pain, loss of movement or functional limitation. Our speciality is orthopaedic and sports physiotherapy: back problems such as low back pain, neck pain, sciatica, headaches and muscle tightness; joint problems such as osteoarthritis and restricted mobility; and sports injuries such as tendinopathies, muscle tears, sprains and overload.

What the first visit is like

The first session is a full assessment. We listen to your history, examine your movement and run the specific tests needed; where it adds relevant information, we confirm the diagnosis with musculoskeletal ultrasound in that same session. You will leave knowing what is happening, why, what we are going to do and how many sessions we expect. No closed packages, no open-ended treatment.

The techniques we use

Each plan combines what your case needs: manual therapy and joint mobilisation, prescribed therapeutic exercise, stretching, therapeutic massage, dry needling, electrotherapy and, where indicated, advanced ultrasound-guided techniques such as EPI® or percutaneous functional neuromodulation. Technology does not replace hands: it complements them.

Hands-on work and active training

Table work relieves symptoms and restores mobility, but what holds the result over time is active training. Every plan includes exercise adapted to your level, your age and your daily life, with clear guidance for home that you can keep up without equipment or spare hours.

A treatment built around you

Two people with the same diagnosis rarely need the same thing. Your job, the sport you play and how long you have had the problem change the plan completely. We reassess at every visit and, if progress stalls, we change the approach instead of repeating the same session for weeks.

Rehabilitation after surgery or fracture

After an operation, a fracture or weeks of immobilisation, the goal goes beyond pain: it is to regain strength, range of movement and independence. We work in phases, respecting the healing times of the tissue and the surgeon's instructions, with specific goals at each stage and a progressive strength programme that determines the final outcome.

Frequently asked questions

How many physiotherapy sessions will I need?
It depends on the type of injury and how long you have had it. At the first visit we give you a realistic estimate, usually between four and eight sessions for an acute problem, and review it as you progress. If the treatment is not working, we will tell you and look for another route.
Do I need a doctor's referral?
No. You can book directly. If the assessment reveals something that needs medical judgement, we coordinate it with the orthopaedic or general medicine consultation in the same clinic.
Does physiotherapy hurt?
Some techniques cause brief, controlled discomfort, and it is common to feel something similar to muscle soreness for a day or two. We never work beyond what you can tolerate: the intensity is adjusted with you during the session.
Do you see patients from Palamós or Platja d'Aro?
Yes. The clinic is in Sant Antoni de Calonge, about a ten-minute drive from both Palamós and Platja d'Aro, with easy parking on the surrounding streets.
When should I start rehabilitation after an operation?
As soon as the surgeon allows, usually within the first days or weeks. Starting early and in an adapted way is the best prevention against stiffness and muscle loss. We only need the surgical report to respect the timings of each technique.
